East Grand Rapids Community Center
The East Grand Rapids Community Center is a LEED Certified, multi-function facility on the shores of Reeds Lake in the center of the City. The Community Center houses the local library branch as well as the City’s administrative, engineering and recreation offices, and several multi-purpose rooms used for meetings, events and rentals.
The site contains many green features, including a photovoltaic system that can be monitored online or at the library. A plaza made from over 10,000 recycled tires and a green roof covers part of the building. Building orientation, sun shades, computer controlled lighting and insulation were all used to reduce energy consumption. Recycled materials were used throughout the facility. Swirl chamber and phosphate filters were installed to filter storm water prior to entering Reeds Lake.
