Eastern Middle and High School

The design of Eastern High and Middle School has embraced the creative use of materials and building systems in its commitment to achieve LEED certification. The district’s mandate, following the 2000 Bond election, that all new buildings would pursue LEED Certification led the design team to incorporate sustainable design as a standard.

Orientation of the building, the efficiency of the envelope, and the design of the systems all help to ensure that Eastern performs better and costs less to operate than a traditional building. Open spaces are preserved for wildlife and native planting schemes are kept to reduce the need for irrigation. Provisions were made to accommodate carpools and charging stations for alternative-fuel vehicles close to the building.
