Goodwillie Environmental School

Goodwillie Environmental School is a unique educational facility where children of fifth and sixth grades spend the school year studying environmental issues in coordination with their core studies (math, social studies, language arts, etc.) The facility includes four classrooms joined in pairs; a large general education space; a visiting classroom; staff offices; support facilities; and a large deck wrapping the building for outdoor education.

The design process began by observing the school program in its existing location, and noting the methods and schedules the teachers used. Students were included in the design process. A major goal was to incorporate a sense of fun into the building and ensure that it did not look like any other type of school.
