Grand Rapids Art Museum

The Grand Rapids Art Museum is the first LEED-certified Art Museum in the world. Designed by world-renowned architectural firm wHY, it features several innovative building systems such as: energy recovery wheels that capture and recycle HVAC energy, a rainwater collection system that provides grey water for flushing and irrigation purposes while being expressed as a beautiful visual feature, and, most unusual for a museum, harvesting natural daylight for illumination of its gallery spaces. These bold departures have established a new benchmark in the design of future museums. Together with the adjacent Rosa Parks Circle and Maya Lin sculpture “Ecliptic”, the GRAM continues the city’s legacy as a leading center for modern design and manufacturing craftsmanship.
