Grand Rapids Community Foundation

Since its start in 1922, the Grand Rapids Community Foundation has invested $140 million in grants to nonprofit organizations to strengthen the community and region, including $10 million for environmental projects. In 2008, after years of leasing office space, the Foundation purchased and renovated its first “home”, the historic 1905 Anheuser-Busch Icehouse located in the up-and-coming area of downtown. The red brick building’s exterior features the iconic Anheuser-Busch “A and Eagle” trademark in terra cotta along with aged copper accents. Key elements such as reuse of materials – including historic stable doors – plus energy and resource conservation helped the project earn a LEED Silver rating – not a simple feat for a 105 year-old building.
