Habitat For Humanity of Kent County (6 homes)

In 2010 Habitat for Humanity of Kent County made a shift in focus from new construction to ‘rehabbing’ existing homes in foreclosure, partnering with the City of Grand Rapids, Kent County and MSHDA’s Neighborhood Stabilization Programs (NSP). We completed our first ‘rehab’ and plan to make this process the greatest portion of our building believing that rehabbing strengthens neighborhoods by replacing blight with healthy homes, promoting efficient land use and is the ‘greenest,’ most affordable choice for families. All of the dozen NSP homes Habitat Kent has completed so far have been LEED for Homes Certified, mostly Silver with a couple of Gold projects.
