Green Buildings Create Challenges for Appraisers

Green building is one of the few bright spots in the real estate world these days, but it remains a blind spot when it comes to property appraisals.
Sustainability advocates say the traditional valuation methods based on square footage and number of rooms places a higher value on features that use more energy over the long term. That, they maintain, discourages green building by devaluing environmentally friendly practices.
