The Kalamazoo-Portage area is now home to three LEED Gold-certified schools -- the only primary and secondary schools with that rating in the state of Michigan.
The WoodsEdge Learning Center at 1501 E. Milham in Portage has been awarded a LEED Gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council in Washington, D.C. It's the first special-education facility in the United States to receive that designation, according to the USGBC's website.
