Funding: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Buildings Upgrade Prize (Buildings UP) is a capacity-building prize focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in existing buildings through energy efficiency and efficient electrification.


Qualifications:


Buildings intended for upgrades may include one or multiple residential or commercial building types(e.g., single family; multifamily; manufactured housing; K–12 schools; higher education; commercial realestate; hospitality; health care; retail, food service, and grocery; local government buildings; stategovernment buildings) and may be in a single community or include buildings across multiple geographiclocations.


Minimum Technology Requirements• Strategies that focus on installation of efficient electric heating and cooling equipment (i.e., heatpumps and/or heat pump water heaters, geothermal heat-pumps).• Strategies that include Weatherization and envelope improvements (e.g., insulation, air sealing,window improvements) where needed to reduce energy costs.


Additional strategies and technologies teams may incorporate into their initiatives include:• Efficient electric appliances• Electric vehicle chargers• On-site and community solar• Electric panel upgrades• Building controls• Energy storage.


Deadline to Apply: July 18, 2023, 5 p.m. EDTPhase 1 Concept Prize submission deadline
