The U.S. Green Building Council of West Michigan invites friends, members, and stakeholders to revel in all that was accomplished in 2024 at the Annual Party & Leadership Awards on December 5, 2024. This celebratory event will be held at the HighFive in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The night will feature dinner, a keynote address by Sandra Lupien, Director of MassTimber at Michigan State University, and the 2024 Leadership Awards Ceremony.

The annual Leadership awardees exhibit a commitment to sustainable design, green building concepts, and innovation. We are excited to showcase this year's projects and share their stories during the annual ceremony.

Introducing Our 2024

Keynote Speaker

Sandra Lupien

Director of Mass Timber,
Michigan State University

Sandra Lupien leads MassTimber@MSU, advancing sustainable mass timber construction and manufacture in Michigan, the Great Lakes Region, and beyond. Through this program, based at Michigan State University, Sandra collaborates with interdisciplinary faculty members, industry partners, policymakers, NGOS, tradespersons, and others on a diverse array of programs and initiatives that are resulting in significant mass timber momentum.

Sandra Lupien leads MassTimber@MSU, advancing sustainable mass timber construction and manufacture in Michigan, the Great Lakes Region, and beyond. Through this program, based at Michigan State University, Sandra collaborates with interdisciplinary faculty members, industry partners, policymakers, NGOS, tradespersons, and others on a diverse array of programs and initiatives that are resulting in significant mass timber momentum. Sandra hosts and co-produces with Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Michigan Mass Timber Update, an annual convening of mass timber stakeholders from a variety of sectors across the state. She is a frequent mass timber speaker at conferences and in media coverage across the U.S. and internationally. Sandra became obsessed with mass timber while pursuing a mid-career Master of Public Policy at University of California, Berkeley, where she produced her capstone, titled, Removing Barriers to Cross-Laminated Timber Manufacture and Adoption in California: A Game-Changer for Wildfire, Forests, and Climate Change. Immediately before joining MSU, Sandra served as a Deputy Director in the California Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, after serving in policy, communication, and engagement leadership roles in the non-profit and public sectors for nearly two decades.

The U.S. Green Building Council of West Michigan (USGBC-WM) celebrates the year’s accomplishments in the green building industry by awarding notable projects and organizations. We recognize those that strive for innovation, sustainability, and community vibrancy. USGBC-WM’s mission is to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated, in a way that improves the quality of life in Michigan.

This award is designed to honor projects that break the mold of standard building construction, design, and operations. The projects' innovation and astute practices reflect the goals of USGBC-WM's programs.
