Press Release: Net Zero Carbon Apartments In Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, March 18, 2021—Bazzani Building Company is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of Bradford Station. The 16,500 SF, all-electric building is fully compliant with the Grand Rapids 2030 District and is planned for LEED for Homes certification. Bradford Station features 23 well-appointed studio and one-bedroom apartments in the Belknap Lookout neighborhood of Grand Rapids. The building also offers one retail space.

“Last fall, Governor Whitmer announced an ambitious plan for statewide decarbonization by 2050. We are proud to be meeting those parameters in 2021,” said Peter Skornia, President of Bazzani. Transitioning to carbon neutrality will mitigate the future harms of climate change. The Bradford Station apartments will consume approximately 50% less energy than a standard new apartment by HERS rating and allow tenants to live a carbon-neutral lifestyle.

“There is a misconception that green building is cost-prohibitive,” said Skornia. “With careful planning and use of well-chosen materials, environmentally responsible construction is achievable without sacrificing beauty or comfort.” The Bradford Station Apartments feature granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and fiber optic internet. Additionally, healthy air goals have been met, with no air recirculation between units or common spaces. Each unit receives 100% fresh air through the HVAC system.

Cheri Holman, Executive Director of U.S. Green Building Council of West Michigan offered congratulations to Bazzani on the first GR2030 District compliant net zero carbon apartments in Grand Rapids. “The resilience of our city depends on diligent property owners & developers who design for community health and well-being. Residents of Bradford Station are sure to reap these benefits along with lower energy bills so they can spend more of their money on the important things in life.”
